Listed as 'Peggy' on father's death notice.

Peg as she was known to he husband, Les was always called Peg. She contracted diabeties in her 20's and had to daily inject insulin to maintain her health.

As a young child Dad & Mum would bundle my brother and me into our car and drive from Moorabbin to Swan Hill to visit Les & Peg. They lived in a house in the grounds of the large Permewans store. Les was the Manager of the grocery shop and the house was situated at the back of the store in the timber & grain yard. Peppercorn trees grew on the nature strip outside the house.

Mum would take my brother & me to the (Murray) river with next door's red setter dog. The dog loved to retrieve sticks thrown into the river, but if you threw the stick too far out he woudn't go. Mum would also take us to the swimming pool.

On one of our trips to Swan Hill the car was stopped by floods blocking the road. We went back to Moorabbin and caught the (steam) train to Swan Hill. During the train journey the train mysteriously stopped and backed-up , then recommenced the journey. We later leaned that then fireman had accidentally dropped his shovel off the loco and they had to go back to get it.
