Thelma served as a volunteer (unpaid) nurse for three years during WW2 1943-45.
She controlled the first air-raid shelter in Melbourne - it was in the basement of the State Electricity Commission (SEC) building where she was the sectetary to the Manager of the SEC.

  Marriage Notes:

Ray and Thelma met in 1946 at a dance at the Railway Hall in the Railway Building at Flinders Street station , Melbourne. At the time Thelma was secretary to the Manager of the State Electricity Commission. Ray remembered that dance night because the organiser of the dance announced that a 'baby' would be presented there for adoption. At 10pm the made the presentation - a little puppy.
