At some time between 1840 and 1848 Robert and his family must have emigrated to Canada/USA as his sons, Robert was born in Canada and John was born in Cleveland, Ohio. The next child, Euphemia was born in Kilmarnock so the family must have returned to Scotland around 1847.

The Sale Cemetery, Cheshire, England headstone of Robert Affleck reads ""My much loved Uncle" Robert Affleck of Stretford, Lancashire (near Manchester) born Scotland 8th January 1819 died 16th May 1888 by his niece J.B.P. On the memorial is also the inscription "My Mother" Euphemia Robertson, sister of the above, and widow of Robert Robertson of Glasgow, died at Melbourne, Australia, 31st December 1900 aged 90 years, and was interred there.
